Job Title: Associate Town Planner

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting the growth of a leading national planning consultancy in their search for an experienced Associate Town Planner.
This is an exciting opportunity for a talented Associate Town Planner to join a dynamic consultancy with a strong presence across the UK. The role can be based in one of the following locations: Newcastle, York, or Leeds, offering flexibility in your working environment while being part of a supportive, collaborative team.
As an Associate Town Planner, you will play a key role in managing and delivering a range of planning projects across residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments. You will work closely with senior management to develop planning strategies, liaise with clients, and mentor junior staff. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to take the next step in their career, with a focus on both project delivery and business development.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage and lead planning applications, from the initial feasibility stage through to successful approval.
2. Provide expert advice on planning policy, local development plans, and planning regulations.
3. Engage with key stakeholders, local authorities, and clients to ensure smooth project progression.
4. Assist with the preparation of planning reports, design statements, and other submission documents.
5. Contribute to business development activities, building relationships with new and existing clients.
6. Mentor and guide junior staff, sharing your expertise and knowledge to support their professional growth.
About You
The ideal candidate will possess:
1. A degree in Town Planning (or equivalent) and MRTPI membership (or eligible).
2. Significant post-graduate experience within the UK planning system, ideally with a background in development management and/or planning consultancy.
3. Strong knowledge of national and local planning policies and processes.
4. A proactive, client-focused approach, with excellent communication and negotiation skills.
5. Proven ability to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines.
6. Experience in mentoring or managing junior team members is highly desirable.
