Sefton Council have vacancies for 2x Beach Steward Ranger post within Green Sefton’s Land Management Team. Green Sefton provides our communities with a clean, green Borough including beaches, nature reserves, countryside, municipal golf courses, parks, play areas and other greenspaces, which include specially protected sites and landscapes, benefitting the health and wellbeing of residents, visitors, investors, and nature. Applicants will be expected to work safely at all times, undertaking wide ranging patrol, stewarding and security functions, primarily at coastal and countryside locations during the summer (April – September), but will retain a boroughwide responsibility during the term of the contract. Acting as an ambassador for Green Sefton at all times, and focussing on the beaches during the summer, the work includes but is not limited to working outdoors, lifting and carrying, dealing with the public especially where behaviour changes are needed, permit checking, using tools and equipment and handling monies as well as conservation management work and habitat improvements, cleansing and general maintenance duties where appropriate across the Council’s Green Sefton sites and facilities. Close working partnerships with external agencies will be required e.g. neighbouring landowners, Beach Lifeguards, and emergency services. Applicants should hold a full clean driving licence. Reporting of daily tasks, site visits and incidents will be an important part of the duties throughout the contract period. Duties may vary in location and in accordance with business needs, e.g. working on different sites frequently. The work base will normally be Ainsdale and all posts involve regular weekend and evening work as part of an established rota. Pro rata will mean working for 26 weekends out of 52 – 2/3 during the summer and 1/3 during the winter. Summer work (April – September) will be afternoon – evening periods. Annual leave is 28 days after the first month worked, pro rata between April and March and all posts are subject to probation policy for 6 months from commencement. A uniform will be provided, which must be worn and presentable at all times. Previous experience of working in similar roles, working in enforcement settings and strong verbal communication skills are highly desirable.
