This post is for those interested in pursuing psychiatry as a career. Candidates must have GMC registration with a license to practice.
The post holder will be based at Blossom Court in Haringey, joining well-established multi-disciplinary teams which include consultant supervision and other doctors already in post.
This is a 12-month fixed term post but there is a possibility of extension beyond this period depending on performance and service need. This is an excellent opportunity to work within the NHS to gain further psychiatric skills and to promote patient-centred care in line with our Trust values. The post holder will be expected to work from 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday. The post holder would be invited to join the on-call rota or take ad hoc duties via the staff bank.
This fixed term post has become available due to service gaps. An induction will be provided to your placement explaining roles and responsibilities as well as your workplace. A Trust induction will also be provided after starting in your allocated post.
The successful applicant(s) will work within their allocated post, performing clinical assessments of individuals with mental health conditions, including mental state examination, history taking, physical health examination, and attending meetings with the multidisciplinary team.
At Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust (BEHMHT), we provide integrated mental health services to the people of North Central London, as well as some services regionally and nationally. We employ more than 3,600 staff, making us one of the largest employers in our area. Last year we supported more than 134,952 people; approximately 2,312 patients and service users on our wards and over 132,640 in the community.
The post holder will gain experience with the full spectrum of psychiatric morbidity in a multidisciplinary setting, working closely with all team members (consultant, SAS doctors and doctors in training, nurses, health care assistants, psychologists, social workers & graduate mental health workers). The care delivered is recovery-focused, placing emphasis on individuals’ strengths and goals for the future. Ward duties include attending formulation/CPA meetings, reviewing patients on the ward for mental health and physical health concerns, risk assessment, liaising with pharmacy regarding medication queries, and completion of discharge summaries and ward round tasks.
