The project:
A Functional Activity Review engineer is required to work in Plymouth on a large-scale infrastructure project. Mace is engaged as a delivery partner to Babcock in supporting the delivery of a major upgrade of existing facilities within HMNB Devonport. These major upgrades will enable deep maintenance work packages for the latest class of nuclear-powered fleet submarines. Dock upgrades to support the Astute operational programme will enable optimization of maintenance. Mace is playing a key role in delivering these upgrades. The Functional Activity Review (FAR) engineer will be accountable to the verification & assurance manager. The FAR postholder will have no responsibilities for systems structures and equipment. The FAR postholder will have tasks and responsibilities key to the delivery of both design and the construction of the project. These tasks and responsibilities are integral to the successful delivery of technical governance, design reviews, and project gate reviews. Successful planning, delivery, and tracking of these functional activity reviews ensure support for the safe operation of the designed facility.

You’ll be responsible for:
* Supporting coordination of the operational aspects of the system designs into an overall facility operational concept to demonstrate functional capability.
* Supporting the coordination and design spatial layout and process management aspects of the facility by integration of the system designs into an overall facility layout.
* Liaising with key stakeholders – user acceptance group and design leads to ensure operational aspects of the system and facility designs are understood and accepted.
* Ensuring effective quality management arrangements operate and deliver through compliance with client business management systems and design & safety manuals.
* Ensuring that the processes and activities being managed are appropriately documented with appropriate records maintained and configuration and quality controls applied.
* Ensuring that staff and contractors are familiar with the hazards and risks (health, safety & environmental) associated with the work undertaken by the delegated engineering team through effective management and communication of the risk assessment.
* Liaising with engineering and operational teams to identify the activities to be assessed within the functional activity reviews.
* Organising and facilitating the functional activity review demonstrating that the designed systems when integrated will meet the functional user requirements.
You’ll need to have:
* Demonstrated relevant knowledge and skills required in the technical/design/document management throughout the design/project lifecycle and have an appreciation and experience of construction design and safety practice as relevant to discipline, post, and project requirements.
* Digitally savvy, can build lasting client relationships and provide support to strong, motivated teams.
* Experience in managing complex infrastructure or (preferably) aviation in a construction or consultancy background and be hungry to grow your career and enjoy the opportunities Mace has to offer.
