Stakeholder Event: 06.05.25 / Panel Interview: 12.05.25
University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust have an extremely exciting opportunity to join the Surgery Division as Divisional Director of Operations. Reporting to the Chief of Service, this senior role is responsible for the performance of services, developing and implementing performance management strategies, and leading service developments that support the delivery of high quality and financially sustainable patient care.
The role is to lead professional management of the division, and the scope of the role reflects the level of seniority of the post holder. We are seeking a motivated and influential leader who is partnership-led and who has significant experience engaging with stakeholders of all levels. We are looking to speak with driven leaders who have significant experience in operational leadership roles, and who have extensive experience managing a diverse portfolio with multi-million pound budgets.
We welcome applications from senior operational leaders who can demonstrate a strong track record of managing operational services in an NHS setting, improving performance, and delivering cost improvement programmes whilst maintaining high standards of patient care and clinical quality. The role would potentially suit an experienced operations director or an assistant director/head of service looking for their next career step in a large multisite acute Trust.
Your duties will be completed with passion whilst leading and motivating from the front, promoting the Trust’s values of compassion, communication, teamwork, respect, professionalism and inclusion; allowing your staff to thrive and deliver outstanding patient care. This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop and progress your executive operational career.
We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and welcome applications from underrepresented groups. In recruiting to our Trust, we are committed to equality of opportunity for all. We believe that the best organisations are those that reflect the communities they serve. We especially welcome applications from candidates from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic heritage, LGBTQ+ communities, and from people with lived experience of disability.
At UHSussex, diversity is our strength, and we want you to feel included to help us always put the Patient First. Your uniqueness and experiences will be part of our creative and innovative community where everyone is encouraged to succeed. We have a range of Staff Networks to help break down barriers, and can offer a buddy to help new members settle in. We’re proud to be a Disability Confident Employer (Level 2) and a Veteran Aware Trust.
We treat our patients and staff with the same compassion and empathy we expect for ourselves. We’re here for them when they need us, and we go above and beyond to meet their needs. This can be seen in our Wellbeing Programme for staff which is extensive and designed to support you when you need it, including where possible, flexible working to support work life balance - because we know that to look after others we must first look after ourselves.
As a university trust and a leader in healthcare research, we value learning, teaching and training so that we can be the best that we can be. From the moment you start with us and throughout your career we will help you to grow and develop. We hope that in choosing UHSussex you are choosing a long and happy career where you will be able to see the difference you make and feel valued for all that you do.
We look forward to receiving your application and the start of your journey with UHSussex.
