Hankinson Duckett Associates (HDA) is seeking a top-level Principal/Associate Arboriculturalist to lead our small but talented Arb team within our friendly and continually growing multidisciplinary practice.
About us
HDA is a team of ecologists, landscape architects and arboriculturalists who collaborate to ensure that the environment is at the forefront of development decisions. We have a well-established national client base within both the private and public sectors, and our advice is sought at all stages of the planning, design and implementation process for a wide range of development types and environmental projects. HDA is an employee owned trust (EOT), meaning that the company is managed for the benefit of its employees. We are a relatively small firm who pride ourselves on the quality of our work.
What we do
The work of our arboricultural team includes Health & Safety and BS5837 Tree surveys, preparation of Arboricultural Impact Assessments and Method Statements, advising clients on appropriate tree works, submission of tree work applications for trees within Conservation Areas or subject to a TPO, Felling Licence applications, providing Local Authority Tree Officer cover (if applicable) and providing advice on TPO legislation, Hedgerow Regulations, Woodland Management and Ancient and Veteran trees. You would become an integral member of the wider team, frequently working closely with the other specialisms within the practice.
What we offer
In addition to working as part of our friendly and supportive team, we offer a wide package of benefits. These include a competitive starting salary, flexible/hybrid working and a bonus scheme, with tax breaks enjoyed on EOT bonuses. The role provides the opportunity for the right candidate to shape their own career, with potential to either work with our existing and talented team – or to build on our existing client base and expand the Arb team to suit. We are looking to provide as much support as required, but with sufficient flexibility for the right candidate to shape their own role. We also actively offer and encourage training to develop your professional career. HDA is committed to Equal Opportunities for all.
Applicants should demonstrate the following
* Education to at least level 5 in arboriculture;
* A minimum of 5 years relevant experience within the industry;
* An extensive knowledge of trees and woody species found in the UK;
* A willingness to increase your knowledge/abilities by on-the-job training/guidance including providing support to junior members of the Arb team and other specialisms within the practice;
* A full driving licence;
* Good report writing and communication skills;
* Familiarity with TPO and Conservation Area legislation;
* Competence in standard office software including MS Word, Excel, AutoCAD etc;
Ideally, the successful candidate will have extensive experience and a high level of competency with respect to the provision of Arboricultural Advice and the production of a range of reports including Tree survey, AIA and AMS. Experience in private consultancy, including time at a senior level, is preferred, although we would be happy to consider individuals working in the public sector, who can demonstrate the necessary skills and experience. A proven ability to win new clients and develop existing relationships would be regarded as a distinct advantage. An interest in ecology and/or landscape architecture would also be regarded as beneficial. This is a full-time position, but consideration would also be given to part-time / flexible working for the appropriate candidate.
