The successful candidate will work as part of a broad team that applies translational model systems through both internal and external partnerships to enable cancer patient risk stratification, identify biomarkers and predict future targeted and/or immuno-therapy susceptibilities. Key responsibilities: Represent OTRO in discussions with clinical asset teams regarding translational studies and tissue profiling, delivered via the OTRO lab teams, for translational work to address key asset team questions. Lead and manage a team to deliver the patient derived explant (PDE) multiomics capabilities, including evaluation of internal and external options to increase robustness, scale and throughput. Oversee all technical aspects of development, assay validation and experimental implementation of the selected approaches. Work in partnership with the OTRO external engagement team to identify and implement improved access to fresh tumour tissues through biobanks, CROs and partnerships. Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills to build relationships with internal Oncology Translational Research teams and with cross-functional partners in disciplines (such as AI/ML, Precision Medicine, Oncology Project Leaders, Oncology Research Units and Oncology Clinical Development etc) to lead the conduct of translational studies and improve mechanistic understanding of our assets. Must be able to manage multiple projects and workstreams, including planning of workload, resourcing requirements and risk management to deliver the team’s objectives on time. Manage data integrity and ensure compliance with industry standards. Report to and partner with the Executive Director to deliver the strategy for the patient derived explant team. Requirements: Ph.D. or equivalent experience in a relevant scientific discipline (eg. oncology, immuno-oncology) Proven experience in leading and executing research projects, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary matrix team. Extensive experience in the use of non-clinical translational experimental approaches to address key mechanistic questions. Prior exposure to industry drug discovery and development and prior experience with ADCs or TCEs would be advantageous.
