Job overview
St Bede’s and St Joseph’s Catholic College are seeking to employ a Cover Supervisor working closely with Teachers, Division Managers and the Cover Manager to support the work of staff and students in the College by covering absent colleagues and ensuring seamless provision for our students.
Primary Objectives of Role
1. To supervise whole classes, normally up to a maximum of three days per absence, during the short-term absence of teachers. The primary focus will be to maintain good order and to keep students on task. Cover Supervisors will need to respond to questions and generally assist students to undertake set activities.
2. To implement agreed work programmes with individuals/groups, in or out of the classroom. This could include those requiring detailed and specialist knowledge in particular areas and will involve assisting the teacher in the whole planning cycle and the management/preparation of resources.
3. When not requested to supervise classes, will act as a support assistant to teachers as directed.
Note: Cover for short-term absences may be provided by persons who are not qualified teachers. The term ‘cover supervision’ occurs when there is no active teaching taking place. Students would continue their learning by carrying out pre-prepared exercises/tasks under this supervision.

Our College and Our Mission
St Bede’s and St Joseph’s Catholic College is a highly aspirational learning community, striving to provide an outstanding 21st century education for all learners in a learning environment of the highest possible quality. We work constantly to promote a passion for learning, to create innovative ways of working and to nurture the talents and ambitions of all our students and staff.
The College operates across the impressive former sites of its two foundation schools, St Joseph’s Catholic College and St Bede’s Grammar School. The rich history and tradition of the two foundation schools stretches back over 100 years, with the originally stated mission to provide,
“a thorough training in the knowledge and principles of the Catholic faith combined with a secular education equal in every respect to the best public schools in England.”
This is an exciting time to join the College as we continue to develop this mission and build on our tradition, with a determined focus on strong teaching, and wide-ranging co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Our mission inspires the three elements of our College Diploma – Scholastica, academic achievement, Ecclesia, contribution to the Catholic life of the College, and Olympia, participation in activities outside the classroom.
The College motto, Christus Lumen Gentium, Christ, Light of Nations, inspires the organisation of our subject areas into five Learning Divisions, each with three leaders. We want to appoint staff who share our passion for success and are committed to supporting the development of our mission. If this is you, we look forward to reading your application and welcoming you as a member of our community.
