Applications are invited from motivated, enthusiastic and improvement focused HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists to join the Haematology & Blood Transfusion Department at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. We are UKAS accredited and an IBMS approved training laboratory.
Applications are being sought from experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists who have successfully completed the IBMS Specialist Diploma in Haematology with Transfusion Practice. Applications are also invited from HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists who are working towards completion of their IBMS Specialist Portfolio - (Band 6 status will be granted on attainment of the Specialist Diploma).
The post holder would be working 37.5 hours per week as part of the 24/7 roster.
The successful candidate will work within the Haematology Team across two hospital sites providing support to Senior Biomedical Scientists in quality management of the Haematology Section.
Main duties of the job
1. Support Biomedical Scientists and MLA staff within the Haematology Section on the Worcestershire Royal Hospital site.
2. Support the Section Lead/Senior BMS in quality management of the Haematology Section.
3. Assist with the training of less experienced staff in the Haematology Section.
4. Monitor Quality & Performance within the Haematology Section.
5. Work and maintain competence in all other sections of the laboratory as part of the Haematology & Blood Transfusion two site roster cover.
6. Hold (or nearing completion of) the IBMS Specialist Diploma in Haematology with Transfusion Practice.
7. Participate in some weekend, bank holiday and night duties on a rotational basis.

Job responsibilities
1. Manage the Quality System in the Haematology Section of the department.
2. Assist with training of staff in the Haematology Section.
3. Ensure adequate stocks of reagents and consumables are available.
4. Monitor IQC and EQA performance and resolve any problems.
5. Attend Laboratory meetings and present Quality and Performance updates.
6. Assist the Section Lead with the production of SOPs and maintenance logs.
7. Maintain documentation required for UKAS ISO15189 accreditation.
8. Assist with the maintenance of all equipment in the Haematology Section.
9. Assist with the implementation and development of new techniques.
10. Take telephone enquiries from various stakeholders.
11. Review test results from analysers and authorise if appropriate.
12. Input Patient ID and test request data onto Laboratory IT system.
13. Participate in the departmental 24-7 shift rota.
Qualifications/Experience
1. Registration as a Biomedical Scientist with the Health Care Professions Council.
2. IBMS Specialist Diploma in Haematology & Blood Transfusion or equivalent knowledge & experience.
3. Experience in all aspects of Haematology and Blood Transfusion tests.

Qualifications
* HCPC Registration as Biomedical Scientist.
* Attainment of Specialist Diploma in Haematology and Transfusion Science or at least 50% completion of portfolio.
Experience
* Post Registration experience of all routine analysis in Haematology and Blood Transfusion.
* Experience of audits and non-conformance reporting.
* Experience of UKAS Accreditation Audits and preparation.
Personal Qualities
* Able to work as part of a team.
* Confident to work unsupervised.
* Able to provide flexibility with work patterns.
Knowledge and Skills
* Good knowledge of ISO 15189:2022 Accreditation Standard.
* Ongoing CPD and specialist training equivalent to post-graduate IBMS Specialist Diploma level.
