Job summary
Are you an aspiring clinical expert in your field of Mental Health? If so, we have an exciting career opportunity for you. We are recruiting Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioners.
In line with the NHS Long Term Plan, we are developing Advanced Practice opportunities in Cornwall across professional groups in Adult Community Mental Health. Advanced Clinical Practitioner roles are well rooted within Acute Health care, in such areas as emergency medicine. However, they are relatively new in our specialty of Mental Health. The first NHS policy was published in 2020, detailing The Competency curriculum for mental health and updated in June 2022.
The ACP qualification is a 3-year MSc. It is clinically and academically focused; this pathway is designed to prepare and support Nurses, Midwives, Paramedics, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, and any HCPC/NMC registered practitioner to develop their knowledge and skills to be able to perform and deliver high-quality Advanced Level practice in all clinical settings.
This is a community-based role that requires frequent travel to various locations throughout the county, including areas that may not be accessible by public transportation.
Main duties of the job
All applicants must have a first-degree BSc honours plus a minimum of three years post-registration experience.
Each trainee requires weekly supervision by an ACP, Consultant Psychiatrist, or Consultant Psychologist in the specialist field they are working within. Whilst an ACP is in training, they work within their ACP job post but are supervised until they are qualified. You will be recruited to a band 7 post; on qualification you will rise to an 8A.
The Advanced Practice MSc is facilitated by Plymouth University. You will attend one day a week with a small cohort of colleagues from CFT, joining others from all over the southwest. This will enable an excellent degree of networking.
You will be invited to join the National Community of Practice for Mental Health ACPs which our own ACP lead helps to steer. We also have plans to develop in the future our very own Cornwall Mental Health Community for Advanced Practice.
