Job Description
HPC site, typically site- based 3 days per week.
If you’re a Senior Civil Engineer ready to lead, innovate, and shape the future of nuclear infrastructure, this is your opportunity to be at the heart of progress.
The Opportunity
EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is a subsidiary of Edvance, which is a joint venture between EDF and Framatome, established in 2018 in charge of the design and the realisation of nuclear islands for new projects in France and worldwide.
EPR-E is leading the way in nuclear engineering, delivering the nuclear island design for Hinkley Point C (HPC) and preparing for the replication and engineering activities at Sizewell C (SZC). At HPC, we’re constructing two state-of-the-art nuclear reactors that will provide clean electricity to six million homes. Meanwhile, our team is already laying the groundwork for SZC, ensuring a seamless replication of this revolutionary energy project.
As a Senior Civil Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in driving forward the design, construction, and commissioning of these landmark projects. You’ll be at the heart of problem-solving, providing expert technical support, and ensuring the seamless integration of innovative civil engineering solutions.
Pay, benefits and culture
Alongside a competitive starting salary (negotiable depending on experience), bonus and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.
We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.
At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.
Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.
We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.
We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.
Your Role: A Critical Force in Engineering Excellence
Joining our integrated Joint Design Organisation (JDO), you’ll collaborate with experts from across EDF, Edvance, and CNEPE, as well as key contractors delivering cutting-edge design solutions. You will be responsible for leading and resolving complex technical challenges, managing interfaces with internal and external stakeholders, and mentoring the next generation of civil engineers.
Your expertise will be essential in ensuring design consistency, compliance with safety standards, and the seamless implementation of modifications. You’ll drive forward continuous improvement, contribute to industry best practices, and play a key role in developing EPR-E UK’s presence and influence in the civil engineering field.
What You’ll Bring
We’re looking for an industry leader—someone with deep expertise, a passion for innovation, and the ability to drive technical excellence. With at least 20 years of experience in complex civil engineering structures and 10 years in reinforced concrete design, particularly within a nuclear environment, you’ll be a trusted expert. Your knowledge of seismic and dynamic design, familiarity with ETC-C code, and experience with 2D and 3D design software will set you apart.
A master’s degree or equivalent experience in civil engineering is essential, along with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills. You’ll be comfortable working in a multicultural environment, liaising with international experts, and shaping the industry’s future. Fluency in English is required, and working knowledge of French is a plus.
Your Impact
Beyond your technical expertise, you’ll be instrumental in mentoring and developing talent within EPR-E UK. Your guidance will support engineers in achieving chartership with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), strengthening our team’s capabilities. You’ll also be a key voice in civil engineering networks, ensuring EPR-E UK remains at the forefront of industry developments.
