Design, develop and maintain electrical systems to required specifications, focusing on safety, reliability, quality, economy, and stainability. Devise new approaches to problems, and prepare drawings, specification, calculations, charts, and graphs, and monitor work for compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices and McLanahan standards. Essential Functions/Key Accountabilities: Follow direction provided by Global Director Controls and Automation and Director of Engineering - Aggregate Systems Group. Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to, and enforcing, all safety procedures and policies inside and outside the facility, including use of personal protective and McLanahan equipment as required. Performs assignments independently with instruction as to the general results expected and with guidance from the Global Director Controls and Automation and/or more experienced personnel. Provides technical direction and on-the-job training to Drafters and Designers. Perform system calculations and studies for single-phase and three-phase electrical power systems, including load flow, voltage drop, power factors, motor starting, etc. Identify customer requirement through the review of requisitions, design specifications, technical drawing, etc. Research suitable solutions to customer requirements, estimate costs and timescales, and assist with proposal preparation and completion of any technical data sheets. Create, review and check all types of projects related electrical drawings (one line diagrams, process and instrumentation diagrams, electrical equipment location drawings, plan drawings, detail drawing, schematics, wiring/connection diagrams, etc.) for compliance with all McLanahan standards, client specifications and national codes. Develop control philosophy and program logic for electrical systems that include the use of PLCs and HMIs. Review and check vendor technical submittals for compliance with all McLanahan standards and client specifications. Participate in engineering and general design reviews as required. Liaise with client and/or third-party Engineering Procurement & Construction (EPC) contractor concerning proposals ongoing projects or existing designs. This function may include attending meetings at the clients or EPC contractors site. Perform liaison function between Engineering and all manufacturing operations for any related issues, problems, or improvements. Coordinate with internal groups including purchasing, quality control, sales, accounting, maintenance, assembly, and field service. Confer with Project Manager and others on staff to resolve design problems. Develop test requirements and assist with the electrical equipment check out a start-up. Prepare product documentation including control narratives, logic narratives, testing procedures, and product/system user manual sections. Keep supervisor advised of work status, workload, problems, and progress as related to work assignments. Travel to job sites, including internationally, as required to assist with the installation, operation, maintenance, trouble-shooting, and repair of equipment, including electrical, mechanical and hydraulics systems. Educational/Other Requirements: Bachelors of Science degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, BSEE or BSEET is preferred. Five years (5) of experience with the advanced knowledge in electrical engineering, obtainable usually through a combination of experience and continuing education. Extensive experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical and /or Autodesk Inventor Routed Systems. Competencies/Knowledge/Attributes: Familiarity and hands on experience with Allen Bradley and Siemens PLCs. Programming experience using RSLOGIX 5000 and TIA Portal is preferred. Knowledge with wired and wireless industrial networking. Familiarity with both single and three-phase power systems and load calculation. Familiarity and hands on experience with 3-phase motor starters and controls. Experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) is preferred. Knowledgeable in the National Fire Protection Association/National Electric Code (NFPA/NEC). Excellent computer literacy, including MS Office applications. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to accomplish goals by relying on sound experience and exercising good judgment. Ability to successfully reach company goals in an environment in which a wide degree of creativity and latitude is required.
