Fairbairn is a 15 bed ward which manages D/deaf or hearing impaired (profound, severe, partial or hard of hearing) patients with complex mental illness in a sensitive environment. We are looking for Healthcare Assistants on Fairbairn which is a medium secure service which cares for male D/deaf patients with complex mental health problems who present risk of harm to others. The ward accepts patients with a range of diagnosis including mental health illness, learning disability, brain injury, autism spectrum disorder and personality disorder. About our Community Deaf Service: This service is the next step in the patients' journey from the UK's largest Medium Secure Service for Deaf men and women aged between 18 and 65 years old. We manage D/deaf or hearing impaired (profound, severe, partial or hard of hearing) patients with complex mental illness in a sensitive environment within the Community. We are looking for Support Workers to join our existing team in supporting our patients' transition into the community. The service accepts patients with a range of diagnoses including mental health illness, learning disability, brain injury, autism spectrum disorder and personality disorder. You will be responsible for: Supporting and encouraging day-day Independent living for our patients Facilitating therapeutic intervention Problem solving and supporting residents with crisis management About You We are looking for individuals who are: Have experience of supporting people who are deaf or who have hearing impairments Fluent in British Sign Language (BSL) or D/deaf themselves, or willing to undertake training in BSL Strong team players with the confidence to work independently. Skilled at building and maintaining relationships across clinical teams. Resilient, with excellent problem-solving abilities. Compassionate, approachable, and able to develop rapport with residents.
