The position is based at Luton & Dunstable Hospital and the successful candidate would be a key part of the team to help to continue to facilitate our merger with the Bedford Hospital Pathology Department. Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust comprises of two busy hospitals sites in Bedford and Luton. The successful applicant will be primarily based on the Luton & Dunstable Hospital Site and assist in clerical support for the Histology Consultants. The post holder will be responsible for providing an administrative and secretarial service to all consultants within the Cellular Pathology Department and be the first point of contact for any enquiries. The post holder will be responsible for the typing, issuing and filing of diagnostic reports and supporting the core service work of the department. This will involve a measure of independent judgement in order that the priority work will be maintained at all times. The post holder will need to communicate at all levels with a wide variety of service users. Use of complex medical terminology is essential and must be accurate. Distribute typed reports and copies of the reports as appropriate. Be the first point of contact for written, telephone and personal enquiries on behalf of the department. Typing of general letters and reports from audio and handwritten notes, ensuring correct proforma is added to the report, as appropriate. Collation of material required for multi disciplinary team (MDT) meetings (slides and reports). Collation of material for sendaway testing and second opinions (including material cross sites) following the correct SOPs. (including Molecular and Genetic testing). This will involve the use of courier tracking system. This may also involve (after training) remotely accessing other Hospital Pathology services LIMs systems to retrieve patient results. Organise extra copies of reports when required
