Specialty Doctor in Community Adult Mental Health - Easington
Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust
Easington South mental health team caters to an area of practice in Co Durham region. Following a Kaizen event in February 2020, adult community mental health services in Durham/Darlington underwent internal re-organization but due to Covid it was postponed until September 2021. The team function has changed from previously being an Affective disorder team to now having become a generic CMHT. This model is in line with CMHT transformation and is better aligned to PCN. The team is based at Merrick House Easington, with a large community base shared with Access Service and Easington North Community Intervention team. The Team provides secondary mental health service input for all mental health conditions for the working-age adult population. We receive referrals mostly from GP surgeries via the central Access team and other sources such as Crisis team/Liaison Psychiatry/wards. We cater to patients with significant mental health difficulties such as mood disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, personality disorder, and adult neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD/Autism. The Team is able to obtain expert advice from Trust-wide specialist services which include an ADHD service; the Autism Spectrum Assessment Team and the Eating Disorder service. The Trust has access to the Regional Affective Disorders Service in Newcastle.

About us
We are one of the largest specialist mental health and learning disabilities trusts in the country, with an annual income of £320m and a workforce of some 6,700 staff operating from around 100 sites in Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire, and York and Selby. We provide a range of inpatient and community services to 2 million people living in County Durham, the Tees Valley, Scarborough, Whitby, Ryedale, Harrogate, Hambleton, and Richmondshire. We also provide additional specialist services to other parts of Northern England.
We are a multi-award-winning trust and are included within the Health Service Journal's Best 100 Places to Work. The trust takes a positive and proactive approach to support staff in their personal development and has embedded the Talent Management approach within the Trust.
Psychiatrists are essential contributors to the majority of our mental health teams. Service users expect and are justified to expect collaborative relationships with dedicated psychiatrists who work consistently as part of effective services. Our medical staffing shortage puts strain on services and workforce wellbeing, and costs extend beyond the financial. The Medical Directorate and Medical Development Team are striving to improve medical workforce recruitment and retention in a variety of ways, and the cornerstone of these efforts is The TEWV Charter for the Medical Workforce.
