We have an opportunity for a motivated and pro-active Husbandry Technician to join the scientific team at our Portishead site in the UK. Our focus is to provide state of the art cell biology and pharmacology support to a range of global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies aimed at improving therapies for the future in areas, including immune oncology, autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, and infection.
Our work is primarily in early drug discovery projects that determine suitability of new therapies and treatments to progress through to clinical trials. At Charles River, we ensure all research is conducted at the highest scientific standards and adhere to the strictest ethical regulations at all times.
The successful applicant will be an integral part of a dynamic and flexible team that performs studies in a wide range of well-established in vivo disease models as well as develops new ways to model human diseases in vivo. We are committed to continuous improvement to identify alternative approaches to the use of animal models and refine our current models.
Main Responsibilities include:
• Providing high level of day-to-day animal care at all times, ensuring that the animals welfare is a priority throughout the process.
• Maintaining highly accurate records of animal health, stock, equipment and environmental monitoring, escalating any problems to the appropriate team member.
• Ensuring availability of necessary materials, animal enrichment elements, supplies and general maintenance of the animal unit.
• Supporting colleagues by performing a variety of procedures, setting up equipment, and providing materials for studies.
• Work closely with Senior Technicians, Scientists and Managers on projects to ensure models are well supported.
• Adhere to all health and safety protocols appropriately and report any quality issues immediately.
• Willingness to work occasional weekends and out of normal working hours (Overtime and time-off-in-lieu policies apply).
Requirements:
• Relevant qualification (Biological Sciences, Animal Welfare or similar).
• Strong attention to detail with good communication skills.
• Passion for animal care and welfare.
• Experience of working with rodents or small animals an advantage.
• Candidates must be able to travel to our Portishead site daily.
