Exeter School is the leading co-educational day school in the Southwest, educating over 1,000 pupils aged 3-18. We are looking to appoint a Head of HR to join our school, a school of great character, to start in July 2025 or otherwise by agreement.
We seek an experienced Head of HR to lead and develop the school’s HR function. This an onsite, whole-school role. As a member of the School’s senior leadership group, the successful applicant will contribute to strategic decision-making, providing advice at the highest level. This role requires a hands-on, proactive leader with expertise in HR policy, employee relations, and workforce planning. The Head of HR is responsible for ensuring the school remains compliant with regulatory requirements while also embedding progressive HR initiatives that enhance staff engagement, wellbeing, and performance. Working closely with senior leaders, you will provide expert guidance on employee relations, oversee the appraisal and professional development process, and drive a data-led approach to people management.
Candidates will be a CIPD-qualified professional with a strong track record in HR leadership and organisational development. They will be an excellent communicator, able to build strong relationships across all levels of the school, and skilled in influencing change. In times of significant change in the independent school sector, candidates will be commercially minded with experience in managing budgets, seeking value for money and identifying savings. With a strategic mindset and a passion for making a difference, the successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the future of our workforce. In return, we offer a supportive and forward-thinking environment, the opportunity to be part of an inspiring leadership team, and a chance to make a lasting impact on the school’s success.
We offer a competitive salary, generous benefits, including free school lunch during term time, free on-site parking and use of indoor swimming pool and fitness suite.
