SUMMARY:
This is the entry level training position for the power engineering technologist design function off premise classifications. The purpose of this position is to develop an inexperienced candidate to accurately evaluate options and design safe, cost effective, and reliable distribution facilities for residential, area lighting, basic facilities, and/or simple maintenance projects. Incumbents are expected to be able to be trained to develop basic skills and expertise in power distribution design and technical tasks. Incumbent is expected to develop sufficient skills to advance to Power Engineering Technologist I or similar position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under direct supervision and assistance, the incumbent will be responsible to perform the following duties:
1. Learn, practice, and promote ALL safety policies and procedures 100% of the time
2. Learn client and/or company policies and procedures for the development of site designs for electrical distribution facilities to serve a variety of customer needs.
3. Learn and be trained to prepare site drawings and construction sketches for various installations of electrical facilities in a cost-effective manner that maximizes safety and service reliability.
4. Learn and be trained to prepare job packages including material estimates and material requisitions of the materials required for the prepared distribution electrical designs.
5. Learn and be trained to evaluate loading of various equipment components being installed such as transformation or fusing to ensure a cost-effective, safe, and reliable design.
6. Learn and be trained to maintain accurate records and files and update the appropriate client systems with accurate data entry.
7. Supports both company and client's business goals and expectations while representing themselves positively and professionally.
8. Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Influences decisions of moderate nature requiring high degree of tact.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Required High school degree or GED.
Preferred Associates degree (AA or equivalent from two-year college or technical school).
Note: In certain situations, an Associate Degree or 4-year degree may be required based upon client project or contractual requirements.
Experience:
0-1 Year(s) Experience in technical field or GIS/CAD. No experience required but experience in utility field desired.
ON-THE-JOB TRAINING:
Incumbent will be involved in extensive on-the-job training and shadowing of more experienced employees to develop required skills and expertise.
