The Role As a SQL DBA, you'll be responsible for the full lifecycle of database management, from design and implementation to performance tuning and disaster recovery. You'll work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure the reliability, security, and scalability of our data environment.Key responsibilities will include the following. Database management (maintenance, administration, performance optimisation), including on-premise and cloud based solutions. Data modelling/development/integration – supporting the flow of data across a range of business systems High Availability and Disaster Recovery You will need to be able to get into the office, Sunderland, 3 days per week. The Person Candidates will need experience that includes; Database Management Systems (DBMS): Proven experience in administering Microsoft SQL Server (essential). Familiarity with other DBMS platforms (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL) is advantageous. Expertise in database installation, configuration, and maintenance. SQL Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of Transact-SQL (T-SQL) for query writing, stored procedures, and scripting. Ability to optimize SQL queries for performance. Performance Tuning and Optimization: Experience in identifying and resolving database performance bottlenecks. Knowledge of database indexing, query optimization, and resource management. High Availability and Disaster Recovery: Experience in implementing and managing high availability solutions (e.g., Always On Availability Groups, mirroring, clustering). Proficiency in designing and executing database backup and recovery strategies. Security: Understanding of database security principles and best practices. Experience in implementing and maintaining database security measures. Data Modeling and Integration: Familiarity with data modeling concepts and techniques. Experience in supporting data integration initiatives. Operating Systems and Infrastructure: Knowledge of Windows Server operating systems. Familiarity with virtualization and cloud computing platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS) is a plus. Scripting: Experience with scripting languages such as Powershell.
