Job overview
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced clinical coder to join the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. The candidate will join our professional team of clinical coders and will be a key player to produce consistent, accurate, meaningful and comparable data to facilitate managers and clinicians in the monitoring, planning and provision of high quality patient care.
The trust is looking for a committed and enthusiastic individual with excellent communication skills. This role will require you to work to strict departmental deadlines, whilst still paying attention to detail and always maintaining a high level of accuracy.

Main duties of the job
1. Abstract and analyse complex and sensitive clinical information from electronic patient record across a broad range of clinical specialties and translate this into a coded format in line with National Standards using ICD10 and OPCS4 classifications.
2. Have experience in using ICD10 and OPCS classification in an acute hospital setting.
3. Work within deadlines whilst maintaining a high quality of accuracy and completeness of clinical coding.
4. Effectively manage assigned workload.
5. Continue professional education and undertake personal professional development in order to refresh clinical coding skills. Keep up to date on changes to code assignment, coding methodology and local policy amendments to ensure coding reflects the activity of the trust.

Education & Professional Qualification
Essential criteria
* Trained to National level for Clinical Coding (Clinical Coding Foundation Course) and proficient in National clinical coding rules and conventions.
* Training in Anatomy & Physiology and medical terminology to national coding standards.
* Educated to GCSE level (or equivalent) including qualifications in English and Maths.
* GCSE or equivalent in Human Biology.
Desirable criteria
* ECDL or computer proficiency certificate.
Experience

* Significant experience as a trained clinical coder.
* To have attended regular clinical coding training courses.
