Job summary
We are looking for a dynamic inspiring Ward Manager, someone who is enthusiastic, innovative and wants to work in a service that is committed to providing individualized evidenced based care.
The ward aims to promote recovery and rehabilitation with service users, preparing them to progress on the forensic pathway. The multidisciplinary team focus on providing compassionate care and a safe and therapeutic environment. Team working and collaboration is therefore imperative in the smooth running of the ward. A good ward manager needs to be able to communicate effectively, be a good listener and show strong leadership skills. They need to understand the needs and demands of the nursing team and ensure there is a good balance of skill sets and personalities to work alongside the demands and needs of the service users. They need to have skills to liaise with outside agencies such as community mental health teams, MAPPA, probation, police, family and carers.
Achieving a safe and successful pathway for our service users is the overall goal for Spring Ward and the appointment of a ward manager who can effectively assist with this aim is paramount.
Main duties of the job
Spring Ward is part of forensic pathway which is managed byCroydon and Behavioral & Developmental Psychiatry Operations Directorate.
The whole pathway includes medium secure beds for both male and female patients, an offender personality disorder unit, a low secure unit, an open rehabilitation ward, and four community forensic teams. The individual services support each other and meet weekly to plan care transition. Spring ward accepts admissions from prisons, high security, medium security, low security, acute wards and community. Patients receive treatment and support to enable them to achieve a safe and successful discharge to the community.

The successful candidate will lead the dedicated multi-professional team in providing care for female service users. The candidate will need to be passionate about high quality patient care and have experience in leadership and Quality Improvement. The post holder will be able to work autonomously as well as part of a multi professional team.
Spring Ward is located in River House at Bethlem Royal Hospital in Beckenham. Spring Ward is a 15 bedded medium secure ward that caters for female adults.
The team benefits from having an experienced Consultant, Speciality doctor, dedicated OT, Psychologist and social worker. Research opportunities are abundant. We have a large number of students from all disciplines.
