The Community Eating Disorders Service Intensive Pathway for Children and Young People is expanding to increase access to community based treatments for families across Newham, Tower Hamlets and City & Hackney. The aim of this service is to support young people close to home to improve their quality of life, feel empowered to manage their illness, resume control over eating and be provided with an alternative to admission.
Physical health monitoring of young people on the CEDS Intensive Pathway, providing guidance and advise for families on how to respond to physical concerns at home.
To provide meal support young people and families at home, in clinic and in hospital – modelling appropriate support for parents with time to evaluate the process at each visit.
Provide psychosocial interventions focused on clinically indicated interventions e.g. distress tolerance, emotion regulation using DBT techniques, basic CBT, motivational exercises, positive behavior support for young people with learning disabilities, psycho-education, distraction activities, supporting symptom management, problem solving skillsProvide NG feeding (when not requiring restraint) in the community
Support the development and delivery of phlebotomy services in the community
Assess, plan and implement and evaluate patient care plans in relation to physical health, as part of wider CEDS care plan for the patient.
To manage challenging/distressing/sensitive situations and patient behaviour in a calm and safe manner, and to use therapeutic nursing skills to engage with the patient/family throughout these situations.
Support paediatric nurses in the Core CEDS team through physical health assessments, feeding back findings, following up on clinical investigations (e.g. blood tests, ECGs, ultrasound, DEXA scans)
