Hays Accountancy & Finance are delighted to be partnering again with a major Norfolk employer who are looking for an experienced Accounts Payable / Purchase Ledger Team Leader who has strong people-management skills in supporting and mentoring a team of 9 ledger clerks who process between 30,000 to 40,000 invoices per month. This is an exciting and challenging role working in a fast-paced finance processing team for an organisation who are constantly expanding. This is an interim role until October 2025 and may become permanent.
Your new role
In this Accounts Payable / Purchase Ledger Team Leader job, you will lead the team in ensuring the high-volume and complex invoices are being processed correctly and on-time across their network of over 600 sites. This will involve checking the workflow of invoices raised, PO's having been approved, managing various in-boxes for requests, the process of payment authorisation through to reconciling the ledgers and ensuring the correct cost codes have been applied to the relevant sites for the management accounting teams to review when preparing their monthly reporting.
As explained, this is a fast-paced processing team and, apart from your responsibilities for ensuring the smooth operation of your team, you will work closely with the other Team Leader and Transactional Finance Manager in reviewing processes to improve the flow of information, improving internal operational functions such as consolidation of invoices, harmonisation of supplier payment terms and supporting other projects such as purchase order systems. You will discuss with your team any invoice or systems issues which need to be resolved, reporting on any backlogs, late payments, query volumes and overall response time to suppliers and staff expenses payments. As the Team Leader, you will also ensure the correct delegation of duties across the team of senior AP clerks and the main processing team.
What you'll need to succeed
You will be an experienced senior purchase ledger clerk, team leader or finance manager who has proven experience of leading and supporting a team as well as, taking the lead in purchase ledger processing and resolving issues. You will need to be highly organised and have confident communication skills to give clear direction to your team and support senior management with accurate reporting data. It is expected you will have a good level of Excel and be comfortable with purchase ledger processing systems to manage the volume of transactions.
What you'll get in return
This is an interim role until October 2025, which may become permanent and will pay circa £30,000 - £34,000 depending on your experience. The company offers flexible hybrid working of 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home. However, as the team leader, you may wish to work in the office more.
