Sounds great! What will I be doing?
The Head of Product Design is an exciting role at tombola, designed to support the business in bringing the tombola brand to life to our players through our products and services.
Reporting to the Director of Product & Insights, the Head of Product Design will review and advise all aspects of design in tombola across all platforms to ensure our Product and Tech teams build excellent user experiences. Working closely with peers in product and engineering, the Head of Product Design will define the design strategy, while also enabling their team to deliver superior, delightful, and engaging user experiences across all our products.
The role holder will be a passionate design professional, with a proactive, problem-solving mindset, who actively seeks out opportunities to improve process, efficiency and service delivery, for external & internal customers. They must be confident and experienced in modern design and hands-on.
What will I be doing? (But in bullet points)
1. Advise, challenge and agree best design practice for all aspects of design across mobile and web for all tombola products.
2. Do that through the tombola design team and by influencing others through a trusting relationship built on shared principles of what the user needs and wants.
3. Defining strategic team initiatives such as standards, guidelines, frameworks and tooling to deliver a top class “way of working”.
4. Manage the expectations of stakeholders to enable them to understand the need for robust UX and visual design processes, including design thinking, research and testing.
5. Develop great collaborative relationships with product, engineering, marketing and related teams and people across multiple brands.
6. Bring hypothesis-driven and experimental ways of working to all strategic and tactical activities.
7. Build feedback loops into every level of design to improve the flow of value.
8. Identify a balance between ‘the right way to do things’ and the ‘right now we need to do things this way’ to achieve our goals and bring the team on the journey.
9. Over communicate on all decisions which may impact the design team.
10. Develop a team to high performing product designers who will be sought out from other people in the business.

Knowledge and Experience
1. Significant experience delivering multi-platform web and mobile applications.
2. Significant experience in a leadership role managing and growing design teams.
3. Evidence of leading teams that have delivered a positive ROI using design thinking with a track record of consistently improving product KPI’s through iterative design delivery.
4. An analytical mind - the ability to identify where research is needed and analyse existing data to inform product decisions and strategy.
5. Comfort launching imperfect solutions and taking tough decisions on priorities.
6. Excellent understanding of testing and discovery methods.
7. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills, including the ability to present design concepts clearly and persuasively to colleagues, partners, stakeholders, and senior executives.
8. An experienced leader, who grows diverse talent and creates a positive and engaging culture.
9. Exceptional attention to detail.
