Our client, a top-tier law firm, is seeking a Paralegal to join our team and support both contentious and non-contentious work in the area of international economic sanctions and export controls. This role sits primarily within the Business Crime Department and requires someone with excellent research skills, capable of interpreting and digesting complex areas of law. The successful candidate will need to be comfortable navigating legal systems worldwide and keeping up with fast-paced, intricate legal developments. Experience in civil or criminal litigation would be a distinct advantage.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Organising and managing large volumes of documents, including historical records and new materials.
2. Maintaining and updating spreadsheets.
3. Preparing summaries of case materials.
4. Attending client meetings, court hearings, and conference calls to take detailed notes.
5. Drafting memos, correspondence, and other documents.
6. Producing hard copy bundles for use in court or other settings.
7. Liaising with Counsel to coordinate casework.
8. Conducting detailed legal research.
9. Undertaking general administrative tasks as required.
Skills and Attributes:
1. A strong academic background, including a law degree or equivalent (GDL) alongside completion of the LPC or BPTC.
2. At least 12 months of paralegal experience, preferably in contentious or criminal litigation.
3. A genuine interest in law, combined with a proactive work ethic.
4. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
5. Proficiency in IT, particularly Microsoft Office programs such as Excel.
6. Familiarity with legal research tools like Lexis Nexis, Westlaw, and Practical Law.
7. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
8. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a dynamic and changing workload effectively.
9. An exceptional eye for detail.
10. A positive and proactive approach to challenges.
