About the Role:
As a CNC Turning Machinist in the Manufacturing Specialists Team (MST), you will be integral to the precision manufacturing and technical development that drives UKAEA's projects. MST, a pivotal part of the Engineering Installation Group (EIG) within IED, operates state-of-the-art CNC machining facilities to produce high-quality components for a variety of cutting-edge applications.
Key Responsibilities:
* Operate CNC Lathes: Competently manage CNC Lathes within MST, including DMG CLX-350 (Siemens control) and Mazak Quickturn 350.
* Technical Review & Process Improvement: Assist in reviewing engineering drawings and processes to enhance productivity and ensure timely delivery of bespoke components.
* Maintain Safety & Quality: Adhere to best practice safety and quality standards, ensuring all equipment is calibrated and reporting any discrepancies.
* Customer Liaison: Advise customers on optimal processes to achieve desired product specifications.
* Production: Produce small batch, high-standard components within strict time constraints.
* Continuous Learning: Embrace new skills and techniques, staying ahead with advancing technology.
* Safety Culture: Promote and maintain a proactive safety culture, ensuring compliance with site and regulatory rules.
* Mechanical Solutions: Utilize CNC engineering expertise to develop mechanical solutions for new and modified equipment in line with current standards and best practices.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Engineering Apprenticeship: Recognized engineering apprenticeship or equivalent time-served experience.
* High Technology Environment: Familiarity with design and quality processes in a high technology engineering setting.
* Safe Systems of Work: Experience working under written safe systems, method statements, and risk assessments.
* Materials & Techniques: Knowledge of materials, modern manufacturing techniques, and nuclear industry experience is advantageous.
* CNC Programming: Significant experience in multi-axis CNC lathe programming, setting, and operating.
* Controller Proficiency: Experience with Siemens, Fanuc, and Mazak controllers.
* Engineering Drawings: Ability to interpret engineering drawings and verbal instructions.
* Regulation Awareness: Understanding of relevant regulations and legislation.
* Cross-Discipline Awareness: Awareness of alternative engineering disciplines.
