SPECIALIST 1-2-1 LEARNING SUPPORT ASSISTANT (FIXED TERM)
Pay Range: Local Government Scale 6
Actual Salary from: £24,144 – £25,770 (Points 13-17)

The Role
Paxman Academy is looking to grow its team of dedicated and skilled LSAs by employing an LSA who can support an individual learner in the school with complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Type 1 diabetes. This will entail working directly with one learner for much of the school day.
Paxman Academy opened to Year 7 students in September 2019 and is a co-educational, fully comprehensive 11-16 Academy with a PAN of 180. It is a heavily oversubscribed school which is held in high regard in the community.
We would be happy to accept applications for candidates wishing to undertake a part time role, such as mornings only or afternoons only. We will also be looking for candidates who are willing to work flexibly beyond the school day to support learners in planned after school activities when required.
* This post is 37 hours per week (32 hours +5 hours weekly to support extracurricular participation and CPD), 39 weeks per year (term time plus non-pupil days).
* This post is fixed term until 31st August 2026.
* The position is to support an individual student at Paxman Academy and is conditional to the child and/or their IHCP continuing. Should either of these conditions change the post will be reconsidered.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:
* Being trained to gain understanding of the learner's individual needs and the provision in place to meet these needs.
* Ensuring that specific SEND provision within the classroom and SEND specific interventions are implemented effectively under the direction of teaching staff and the SENDCo.
* Support teaching staff and the SENDCo to monitor the learner’s progress through effective communication and collaboration.
* Provide consistent support for a learner with complex SEND needs, including type 1 diabetes, under the direction and supervision of a qualified teacher and through following an Individual Health Care Plans (IHCP).
* Clear record keeping to monitor medical needs as outlined within the IHCP.
* Effective communication with colleagues and ability to contribute to progress meetings as required.
* Promote positive behaviour, raising esteem and encouraging an aspirational culture.
* Work to foster independent learning skills.
* Further duties to be tailored to need, relating to applicant skill-set and direction of the Headteacher.
We're looking for you if you have:
* Successful recent experience of working with children in an educational setting.
* Educated to NVQ Level 2 or equivalent.
* Supported students with complex medical needs (including T1 diabetes), or be willing to undertake training and follow Individual Healthcare Plan (IHCP) requirements.
* Knowledge, skills and experience in working with learners with Autism, ADHD and other neurodiverse conditions.

Paxman Academy works closely with Essex County Council’s SEND Department and there will be training and support developed and offered in conjunction with ECC and our health partners.
