Littlegarth is a successful, popular and thriving school for 2-11 year olds with approximately 270 plus pupils in the main school and c. 40 in the nursery, located in a spectacular setting with extensive grounds outside Nayland on the border of Essex and Suffolk. It has an impressive range of facilities and is well resourced in terms of both a committed team of teaching and support staff but also its classrooms, library, performing arts space and sports hall.
The school is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee. The Board currently comprises 10 governors; it has three sub-committees: Finance & General Purposes, HR, Risk & Governance, and Education. The governors include a range of backgrounds and professional experience, and include some current and former parents.
This role would be suited to someone with considerable management or relevant specialist experience in the public or private sector. Applicants with education experience would be welcomed.
The Role
The Board is seeking to recruit a governor to join the Board and sit on the HR, Risk and Governance Committee. The ideal candidate will have the following qualities:
* Experience, knowledge and understanding of one or more of the following: risk management, governance or compliance
* An understanding of the need for clear vision, strategy, plans, motivation, governance and controls
* An understanding of the importance of promoting diversity, equity and inclusion
* Sufficient time to devote to Board and Committee work. The time commitment involves attendance at:
* Four Full Board Meetings per academic year
* One Committee meeting per term
* An annual strategy morning
* A formal governor visit at least once a year
* Occasional attendance at school events
* Ideally living within a reasonably close distance of the school
* Candidates who live further from the school would need to be prepared to attend at least 50% of Board and Committee meetings in person, with attendance by zoom when in person attendance is not possible
* Have the enthusiasm and motivation to support the senior leadership team and contribute to the development and progression of the school
