Main duties of the job
To provide an efficient and comprehensive Human Resource (HR) function to the Practice, working autonomously under the supervision of the Operations Manager.
The successful applicant must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to consistently and proactively prioritise workload. Whilst experience of primary care is not essential, it would be advantageous.
About us
Portsdown Group Practice covers the whole of Portsmouth from postcodes PO1 to PO7. We operate from 6 surgeries: Cosham Park House (PO6 3BG), Crookhorn Lane (PO7 5XP), Heyward Road (PO4 0DY), Kingston Crescent (PO2 8AL), Paulsgrove (PO6 4HJ), and Somerstown (PO5 4EZ). We are our own Primary Care Network (PCN).
We have Clinical Partners, Salaried GPs and a comprehensive Nursing and extended clinical team overseen by our Clinical Team Manager. The team consists of Nurse / Paramedic Practitioners, Registered Nurses, HCAs, MSK Physiotherapists, Podiatrist, Dietitian, Social Prescribers and Care Co-ordinators. The Pharmacy team consists of Clinical Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians. The Practice is well established, financially secure and successful.
Job responsibilities
The post holder will work closely with the Operations Manager for Human Resources (HR) in the areas of induction, review, appraisal, retention, development, staff engagement and the day-to-day HR requirements of the Practice. In addition, the post holder will provide the management and leadership skills necessary to train and develop Team Managers in various aspects of HR, as appropriate to their roles and duties.
The role will focus primarily on leading the HR element for the Practice; being responsible for delivering efficient support that facilitates the smooth running of the Operations Department, which contributes to the wider business. The post holder will work with the Operations Manager, ensuring that employees receive the guidance and support they require whilst in our employment.

Qualifications
* Evidence of continued learning and development
* Good level of general education
* Excellent level of spoken English
* CIPD membership
* Working towards / ambition to study a higher level qualification
Skills
* Ability to carry out staff appraisals
* Ability to carry out complex HR processes i.e. grievance, disciplinary
* Accurate and thorough approach
* Impeccable communication skills and ability to adjust communication to the recipient appropriately
* Ability to work in a changing environment and work under pressure
* Able to work autonomously and self-direct own workload
* Handling sensitive information confidentially
* Use own judgement and common sense
Experience
* Minimum 12 months general HR experience demonstrating competences across a range of HR functions
* Experience in Primary Care
* Experience of using SystmOne clinical software
* Proven track record in HR in the Public Sector
Knowledge
* Significant working knowledge of current UK employment law
* IT literate including competence in Word and Excel at intermediate level

£35,000 to £40,000 a year depending on skills and experience.
