A new opportunity to join our legal and governance (LeGo) team has arisen for a Junior Legal Counsel. If you are a qualified lawyer with interests in commercial law and working in the charity and life science sectors, this role could be for you. Responsibilities of the role: Working alongside more experienced members of the team and with increasing levels of independence and responsibility, to draft, negotiate and provide legal advice on a wide range of research-related agreements, including research collaboration agreements, material transfer agreements, data sharing agreements, technology transfer agreements, etc. To provide legal support to other functional teams within our organisation (e.g. Finance, IT, Procurement, Grants), including negotiating procurement contracts. To lead on and work with legal colleagues to provide appropriate frameworks to improve and standardise contractual processes and documentation. Keep abreast of legal developments and sharing relevant insights with colleagues in the Legal team. Essential Skills: Enthusiasm for our organisation's charitable mission and focus on scientific research Qualified as a solicitor or barrister in the UK (or equivalent in other jurisdictions) Experience in drafting and negotiating contracts Experience of applying legal expertise to business problems in a complex and dynamic setting Ability to give advice that strikes an appropriate balance between risk and benefits Strong communicator with effective project management and/or time management skills Ability to present ideas articulately and to effectively convey legal concepts to non-lawyers Ability to work well with a wide range of people (from scientists and academics to finance and operational professionals) "Can-do" attitude focused on looking for solutions Positive and enthusiastic with a flexible approach About Us: The Legal Team is responsible for drafting and negotiating all agreements related to our activities. The Research Governance Team manages the complex ethical requirements of our research and the Corporate Governance Team supports GRL Board and its committees to maintain best-practice standards and processes.
