We are looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist (Forensic Psychiatry or General Adult Psychiatry) in the York area – £180,000
Stockton Hall Hospital is a 112-bedded, medium secure hospital in the beautiful City of York. We are an independent sector hospital that exclusively treats NHS patients and works closely with our NHS colleagues to achieve the best outcomes for our patients. We partner with the Humber and North Yorkshire Provider Collaborate as part of the local Integrated Care Board.
At Stockton Hall Hospital, we pride ourselves on valuing the contributions of every team member and working in partnership with our patients. The genuine team spirit and support for one another make Stockton Hall Hospital a fantastic place to work. Consultant colleagues at Stockton Hall have a collective experience of working here of about 45 years, and it has traditionally been a place of longer stay and positive well-being experience.
We offer a wide range of specialist services including mental illness, neurodevelopmental disorder, learning disability, and female medium secure services. Our treatment is facilitated by a well-resourced, multi-disciplinary group of clinicians. Our psychology, occupational, social work, and physical wellness provision provides a wide range of opportunities for our patients.
The LD and A services of Stockton Hall were accredited by the prestigious National Autistic Society in November 2023, demonstrating our commitment to being the best in class.
You will be part of a newly refurbished building on a brand new ward, purpose-built for female secure patients. The caseload is for 12 women, and you will have the full support of the non-medical prescribers and Residential doctors providing input and an admin team to assist you in managing these patients.
What you need
* You will fulfil the role of Responsible Clinician to patients.
* You must hold a CCT, or equivalent, in Forensic Psychiatry or General Adult Psychiatry.
* Meet regulatory requirements, such as GMC registration and revalidation.
* Have experience working with women in a secure service.
* The role will include participation in our on-call rota (non-residential).
What we offer you
* Salary of £180,000
* Flexible working considered (depending on caseload; Consultants carry a full-time equivalent caseload of 12 - 16 patients).
* Non-residential on-call responsibilities (1:7).
* Free parking.
At Priory, we have good peer groups at the site and have worked hard to join up the network of doctors to stay connected – such as through WhatsApp. We also have good support for CPD, PDP groups well set up, and an effective and efficient appraisal process along with a mentorship programme for medical staff new to the private sector or to Priory. Due to the large size of the company, there are excellent career progression opportunities, and each specialisation has a network supporting it which the doctor can become an active part of.
* Peer group of doctors that are supportive.
* Generous study leave (including funding).
* You will have your own office and ample administrative support.
* Generous annual leave entitlement.
* Career development opportunities at the hospital, QI, teaching, and CPD development and management apart from connectedness to opportunities within the Priory Group.
* As the lead clinician for the women’s service, you will represent the service within the national women’s service developmental network that’s been re-established by service line Clinical Director Mr Michelle Gilluley.
* Our independent Employee Assistant Program can offer confidential emotional and practical support and advice to colleagues, 24/7.
* Priory benefit package (including private health insurance).
* There are a range of benefits that improve with time in the company.
* Indemnity is also covered.
* Company pension scheme.
An informal discussion is encouraged – contact us today to set up a confidential, non-obligatory chat with Dr Santosh Kumar, Medical Director (phone: 01904 401835).
If you are successful, you will be expected to complete a full two weeks induction upon starting with us at Priory, and these occur on the first two weeks of every month. If you have to work a notice with your current employer, we recommend you do not hand your notice in until we are able to provide a start date to ensure a smooth transition between companies.

As part of our wider infection control efforts, and to meet our commissioner and customer requirements, we continue to record vaccination status for all colleagues and we therefore request that you disclose this information as part of your Pre-Employment checks.
