Job Title: Prison Workshop Supervisor

Salary: £25-27,000 DOE
Contract: Permanent, Full-time
Working Hours: This is a full-time role, 38.5 hours per week, with the following schedule: Four full days per week: 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM, One half-day per week: either 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM or 1:00 PM - 5:30 PM
Role & Client Overview:
We are seeking a Prison Workshop Supervisor to oversee manufacturing operations in a prison-based workshop at our clients operations at HMP Millsike. You will lead a small team of prisoners, supervising the repurposing of mattresses and beds, ensuring that production targets and quality standards are met in a safe and supportive environment.
In this role, you will provide practical training, manage workflows, and help prisoners develop essential employability skills such as teamwork, time management, and quality control—giving them the tools to succeed upon release.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Induct and train prisoners in manufacturing processes, ensuring compliance with health & safety protocols.
2. Supervise production, ensuring all work meets contractual and quality standards.
3. Lead a small team, promoting a positive work ethic and fostering a rehabilitative environment using restorative practices.
4. Conduct risk assessments, maintain tool security, and comply with prison safety regulations.
5. Work alongside Work & Skills Coaches to support prisoners in developing transferable skills for employment.
6. Manage inventory and production targets, keeping accurate records of materials and outputs.
Essential/Desirable Criteria:
1. Experience in manufacturing, production, warehousing, or industrial operations.
2. Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage a team and meet productivity goals.
3. Awareness of health, safety, and risk management in an industrial setting.
4. Organised, proactive, and confident in training individuals and monitoring progress.
5. Understanding of security protocols in a structured environment (experience in a custodial setting is a plus).
6. A teaching, assessor, or TAQA qualification is desirable (or a willingness to work towards one).
