Join our Legal & Governance Directorate as an Information Governance Officer!
At Manchester Metropolitan University, our Information Governance team within the Legal & Governance Directorate plays a critical role in overseeing compliance with data protection and freedom of information legislation. Upholding the data subject rights and responding to requests in a timely and effective manner is central to our compliance programme.
This is an exciting opportunity for an Information Governance Officer to join a team of professionals experienced in the field of data protection, freedom of information and records management. You'll have the chance to actively shape and develop the University's information governance function and contribute to a culture of compliance across the institution. The work is intellectually challenging and rewarding.
Your Responsibilities:
1. Responding to requests: Manage and respond to requests under data subject rights and freedom of information legislation.
2. Providing expert advice: Offer consultancy to dedicated departments according to our business partner approach.
3. Conducting assessments: Lead data protection assessment activity.
4. Managing agreements: Develop and maintain information sharing and data processing agreements.
5. Information asset and processing activity registers: Enhance the University's information asset register and record of processing activities.
6. Incident management: Oversee responses to complaints and information governance incidents, ensuring prompt resolutions.
This role will play an important part in helping the University meet its strategic goals while ensuring appropriate levels of compliance with information governance related legislation.
What We're Looking For:
1. Experience: Proven experience of managing data subject rights requests, freedom of information requests, and other data protection casework.
2. Relationship building: Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships across the University.
3. Communication skills: Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to convey complex legal and technical matters in a clear and simple manner.
