Children North East is a large North East based children’s charity that works across the region, with some work extending across England, Wales and Scotland. We exist because growing up can be hard. We want all babies, children and young people to be happy and healthy, and to grow up feeling safe and loved, resilient to the challenges they may face, and valued and confident.
This is an exciting opportunity at Children North East. You will continue the work that has already been established and will continue to update our social policy positions, campaign for change and assist in influencing local and national social policy to improve the lives of babies, children and young people.
Your responsibilities as Policy Officer will be to work against a clear plan linked to the policy objectives within our 5 year strategy this will include researching and analysing data, advising on various issues including the impact of policy decisions, connecting with MP’s and local councillors, being part of relevant campaigning groups, carrying out developmental work and liaising with internal and external contacts in the wider community.
Main Responsibilities
* Undertake or commission research and carry out consultations with internal and external stakeholders including colleagues, service beneficiaries, or members of the public.
* Gather and analyse data and information.
* Develop expertise in social policy affecting children and young people regionally and nationally.
* Lead on campaigning for change in social policy affecting babies, children and young people.
* Keep up to date with social, political and economic developments and brief others on these.
* Identify and respond to relevant consultations and inquiries, including submissions to consultations issued by Government, Parliament, and other bodies in collaboration with Senior Managers as necessary.
* Work closely with MP’s and local councillors.
* Identify opportunities for Children North East to engage reactively and proactively across all relevant policy areas.
* Manage and track the delivery of political or organisational priorities.
* Provide advice to senior managers, stakeholders and decision makers on Children North East policy position.
* Work closely with our Communications Team to prepare public policy statements, briefings, reports, and speeches.
* Deliver oral briefings and presentations.
* Work with a range of people and organisations, including senior managers, public office officials and members of the public.
* Produce resources, articles, speeches, tweets and posts in partnership with the Communications Team regarding Children North East’s policy position.
