Compared to more traditional accountancy roles, these positions will give you the opportunity to be an enabler to managers, whilst influencing and challenging as appropriate. You will be an ambassador for customer self-help as you support budget managers to monitor and manage their own budgets through maximising technology. Our senior accountants support a wide variety of front-line services, including children, adults, business, social care, highways and IT, delivering efficient services that add value. We also provide technical financial services, services to schools and early years providers, as well as external customers, including the North Yorkshire Pension Fund and an increasing number of commercial companies.
About the role
Due to the continued growth of the service, we have a Senior Accountant vacancy available to manage a team within the service. As Senior Accountant, you will undertake a lead role in the finances of the relevant area of the authority, as well as leading and managing the day-to-day operations of the team. The role will require you to work closely with other services across the council, including senior management, council owned companies and possibly Members and other teams within the finance service. In addition to specialist responsibilities, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the operation and development of the wider finance team, ad hoc project work, as well as having staff management responsibilities.
What you will bring
1. You are a proactive individual with strong leadership, organisation and communication skills, with the ability to lead, enthuse, motivate, inform and develop a small team of finance professionals.
2. You'll also be able to work effectively with senior managers across a broad range of service areas.
3. You are proficient, professional and confident, together with an inclusive and helpful approach.
4. You are able to take ownership of a number of key areas within the finance team, ensuring high levels of service are maintained.
What we offer
In return for your hard work, we can offer you a supportive team environment with plenty of development opportunities, flexible working hours, a combination of home and office working, 28 days annual leave (plus bank holidays), raising to 34 after five years’ service, generous local government pension and green car scheme.
The service has embraced modern work practices, enabling colleagues to work from home, or any of our offices across the county. We come together as a team for development, connection and collaboration, otherwise we work where it's most productive to do so. You will be provided with technology to enable efficient and effective work, ensuring that you are connected and well supported.
