JOB TITLE: Senior Accountant
REPORTS TO: Accounting Manager

SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant position helps ensure compliance with internal financial requirements. The Sr. Accountant works closely with members of the development team and procurement to ensure donation and grant accounting accuracy, maintain a fund ledger, and ensure inventory accounting accuracy. This position also assists with various audits of financial accounts, prepares necessary reports, and other administrative activities. This role is under the direction of the Accounting Manager in accordance with PPSE Medical Standards and Guidelines as well as State and Federal Regulations.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting
1. Overseeing accounting activities, including, but not limited to cash receipts, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and inventory
Fixed Asset Accounting
1. Maintains the subsidiary ledger within accounting system and roll forward schedule
2. Maintains the Work in Progress (WIP) schedule
3. Records additions, disposals, transfers, and depreciation expense
4. Reconciles at month-end
Inventory Accounting
1. Maintains the subsidiary ledger and roll forward schedule
2. Monitors and records adjustments, additions, disposals, and transfers
3. Reconciles at month-end
Donation / Grant Accounting
1. Ensures donations and grant funding are recorded properly
2. Ensures receivables are recorded properly
3. Reconciles at month-end
4. Prepares requests to transfer funds to/from accounts
5. Distributes donation updates timely
Cash Receipt Accounting
1. Ensures cash receipts are recorded properly and timely
2. Reconciles at month-end
3. Communicates with health centers for variance explanations
Payroll Accounting
1. Performs payroll transactions export/import processes bi-weekly
2. Ensures tax notices/tasks are cleared with third-party payroll processing agency
3. Reconciles at month-end
4. Communicates with HR for any discrepancies
Financial reporting analysis and compliance
1. Preparing reconciliations, variance explanations, and identifying trends/fluctuations for statements of financial position and financial activity
2. Financial and Accounting expertise ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and state and federal laws and regulations
Grant / Donor management
1. Reviewing grant agreements and donation letters to accurately record receivables and cash receipts for restricted and non-restricted funds while adhering to document retention policies
Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field. 3 - 5 years as a senior accountant preferably in the nonprofit sector
2. Possess strong detailed analytical skills, and can apply these skills to solve problems, resolve issues, and make sound decisions
3. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
4. Possess strong collaborative skills to work well with both internal and external partners
5. Exemplifies strong customer service skills
6. Ability to manage time wisely and communicate timely while managing multiple projects
Preferred Qualifications
1. 3 - 5 years as a senior accountant preferably in the nonprofit sector
2. Project accounting experience preferred
3. Proficient in Excel
4. Abilia (MIP) experience
5. General knowledge of non-profit accounting principles in a Healthcare environment
Other Duties
1. Cross-trained in all financial matters to provide support to other team members as needed.
2. Protect the organization's value by keeping information confidential, maintaining appropriate internal controls, and ensuring accuracy in work performed.
3. Work with leadership to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit and prepare documentation as needed for periodic audits by external auditors, tax filings, and annual surveys.
