We are currently looking to grow our New Product Development Team in Havant, with the below role.
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer:
We are seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead mechanical design and development projects for Lewmar's range of marine products. As a key member of our fast-paced Design Office, you will be responsible for ensuring that our products meet technical, safety, and regulatory requirements, and for continuously improving our design processes.
The role would suit an enthusiastic, well-rounded Engineer with exposure to many different manufacturing processes, whilst making sure their products are designed to be aesthetically pleasing. Hands-on approach, willing to follow the Design Process from Concept, Prototype, Build, Test, Manufacturing Support, and Production.
Specifically joining the New Product Development Team to develop a range of Innovative Products for the Marine Industry, initially leading the Development of a Thruster Solution for the US Pontoon Market. Collaborating with US OEMs.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the design and development of mechanical systems and components for Lewmar products, including Winches, Windlasses, and Thrusters.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop integrated solutions, manage projects, and coordinate with external vendors and partners.
* Mentor and train junior engineers on design best practices and techniques.
* Continuously improve design processes to ensure efficiency and quality.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and ensure product quality.
* Travel when required, including outside of the UK.
* Perform any ad-hoc duties as your line manager requests.
* Work alongside the PM – taking responsibility for meeting goals and updating senior management.
The ideal candidate will have:
* A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, or a related field.
* 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, with a focus on product development, ideally in a marine environment.
* Expertise in CAD software (preferably Creo – training will be provided) and FEA tools.
* A strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including material selection, stress analysis, and kinematics.
* Experience with design for manufacturability and assembly – injection moulding.
* Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
* A hands-on approach and ability to build and test prototypes and solutions.
* A proactive attitude towards achieving company goals and targets.
* A willingness to embrace the company's core values and culture.
* Passion for the boating industry, with sailing or powerboating experience preferred.
