An exciting apprenticeship opportunity has arisen to join the Diocese of Nottingham’s Human Resources department. As an apprentice HR Assistant, you will report directly to the HR Officer in dealing with generalist responsibilities for the central office (Curia) and parishes across the diocese.

What you’ll do at work
As an apprentice HR Assistant, you will report directly to the HR Officer and assist her in providing professional advice and guidance to all employees, colleagues, clergy and volunteers within the diocese. The apprentice HR Assistant will assist in dealing with generalist responsibilities for parishes across the diocese gaining knowledge and expertise in a Human Resources function. We are looking for someone who is professional, friendly and ideally already has some HR knowledge or experience who is looking to progress in their career and broaden their knowledge and skills. You will be proactive and resilient and have the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people.
Key responsibilities:
* Recruitment: Work alongside the HR Office in managing the safer recruitment process from initial decision to recruit through to onboarding and induction; ensure compliance with safer recruitment policies and procedures; Screen prospective applicants to evaluate their skills and qualifications; maintain contact with prospective candidates; provide feedback to parishes on progress of onboarding; maintain databases; keep accurate records of candidates and progress through onboarding
* Employee relations & Employment Law: Ensure appropriate pre-employment checks are carried out and satisfactory. Draft changes to terms and conditions as required, ensuring they are compliant with current legislation. Assist the HR Officer with Exit Interviews to ensure notable information is captured and recorded
* Transactional HR Activity: Working closely with the HR Officer you will oversee transactions and data for parishes (sickness absence, new starters, probations, contractual variations) ensuring information is correct and up to date. Support the HR Officer with the implementation of HR Software to the Diocese
* Employee Development: Support co-ordination and delivery of learning plans for employees; driving initiatives that support ongoing learning. Assist with training parish priests and employees in the use of the HR system and software
* General Administration: Support the HR Officer with special projects as required; visit parishes with the HR Officer to deliver training to clergy & volunteers; prepare and draft monthly reports for the HR Officer; ensure all information is stored correctly and in accordance with GDPR regulations, the Data Protection Act and cybersecurity
* Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deal with difficult situations with diplomacy and tact
* Adaptability: Flexible and willing to provide support where needed
* Time Management: Excellent ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines under pressure
* Attention to Detail: High accuracy and attention to detail in tasks
* Self-Starter: Confident and capable of working independently and collaboratively within a team
* Customer Service: Excellent communication skills required to build and managing relationships with internal stakeholders

* Service Delivery: Delivers excellent customer service on a range of HR queries and requirements, providing solutions, advice and support primarily to managers. Builds managers’ expertise in HR matters, improving their ability to handle repeated situations themselves where appropriate. Uses agreed systems and processes to deliver service to customers. Takes the initiative to meet agreed individual and team KPIs in line with company policy, values, standards. Plans and organises their work, often without direct supervision, to meet commitments and KPIs.
