Job overview
The Intensive Positive Behaviour Support Team (IPBS) is a highly specialist multi-disciplinary team that provides intensive support for children and young people up to the age of 18 years who are at risk of a hospital admission due to risks around behaviours of concern. The team covers a wide geographical area within the North East and North Cumbria (NENC) area, working with Children and Young People’s locality teams in each area, offering both a consultation model and intensive clinical input where necessary.
The IPBS Team provides support in three pathways: Children and Young People who have a learning disability, Autistic Children and Young People, and Inpatient (Ferndene). The team works as an integrated multidisciplinary CYPS Specialist team providing intensive Positive Behavioural Support to young people displaying complex behavioural presentations of concern. This includes conducting observations and assessments, consultation to community teams, implementing skills development, and other specialist interventions based on the needs of the young person.
Main duties of the job
The Pathway Manager post is busy yet rewarding, ensuring services are effective, safe, and responsive. The post holder must be flexible in their approach to supporting day-to-day operational management and clinical support of the service and staff well-being.
The successful candidate will be fully supported by the collective leadership team regarding development requirements including training, supervision, appraisal, and coaching/mentoring.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Pathway Manager is responsible and accountable for providing safe, effective care and efficient services to service users and their carers. Key aspects of the role include monitoring the performance and quality of the service the team delivers. Responsibilities include:
1. Day-to-day management of the team including recruitment, selection, and induction of staff.
2. Conducting appraisals, developing individuals, managing performance and absence, ensuring statutory and mandatory training is completed, and dealing with grievance and disciplinary cases.
3. Monitoring and managing the performance of the service, conducting clinical audits, and providing reports to managers as required.
Person specification
Education & Qualification
* First Level Registered Nurse RNMH, RMN, RNLD or equivalent first-level qualification (e.g., Social Worker, OT, Clinical Psychologist).
Knowledge & Experience
* Experience of coordinating and managing staff resources.
* Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team using a community-based approach.
* Evidence of leadership skills/delegation.
