This is a Level 1 Cabinet Making Course, designed to give you the basic skills to design and make your own pieces of furniture. This is an introduction to the basic skills and gives you the foundations to build upon your hand skills and technical drawing. This entry-level qualification covers a wide range of cabinet making techniques. During the course you will prepare components for assembly, set out joints and prepare components to include Mortise, Tenons and Dove Tail joints. You will be taught to use the correct hand tools safely as part of a thorough Health and Safety module, which will include the safe use of power tools and equipment. As well as assembling furniture components, you will use different techniques to create furniture with your own style choices incorporated.

Assessment
You will be observed within your workplace and the College workshops carrying out normal working activities. This will be to assess your abilities and techniques to ensure that you have met the required criteria and assessment objectives. You will be given written and verbal feedback on your practical/academic activities and, where necessary, a structured action plan that will be available for your personal progression during your attendance on the programme.
