Lancashire County Council is seeking a qualified and experienced Best Interest Assessor (BIA) to join our Adult Services, Health and Wellbeing Directorate. About the Role: As a Best Interest Assessor, you will play a crucial role in delivering personalised assessments in line with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) 2009. You will ensure that safeguarding adults is embedded within your practice and actions at all times. Your responsibilities will include: Conducting comprehensive Best Interests Assessments for Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards applications. Providing specialist advice and guidance to internal and external customers. Managing a complex caseload and working to tight deadlines without direct supervision. Collaborating with colleagues and external partners to ensure joined-up service provision. Mentoring and supporting junior colleagues and external Best Interest Assessors. Key Requirements: Relevant professional qualification (e.g., Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Chartered Psychologists). Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) Best Interests Assessor award. Current registration with an appropriate professional body (e.g., Social Work England, HCPC). At least 2 years of post-qualifying experience, including experience in implementing the Mental Capacity Act and completing DoLS assessments.
