Job summary The whole Emergency Department is about to undergo a substantial redevelopment as part of a new Emergency care build. We anticipate that the process will take about 3 years, at the end of which we will have a brand new, fit for purpose, Paediatric ED. This will enable us to kick start the next phase of our service development. This post presents an opportunity to shape a developing service right from the start, and to be involved in the associated change. Please see Attached Job Description for more detail Main duties of the job This post is an Emergency Department post. We are happy to consider candidates from EM or Paediatric backgrounds. For appointees with an EM background, we anticipate a proportion of clinical time will be dedicated to working in the adult ED, participating in weekend and on-call working. For appointees from a paediatric background, we would anticipate a proportion of clinical time to be dedicated to working within the Paediatric service, including the CAU. There will be an out of hours requirement. The latter will ideally require on-call working but this will be determined by recent experience. Consultants are expected to provide emergency cover for absent colleagues. All SPA time will be pointed at the Paediatric ED. We expect the balance and the nature of the weekend and on call commitments to change as our service develops. We are currently aiming to have a cadre of 4-6 WTE paediatric EM consultants from mixed backgrounds, in the longer term.
