Who are you looking for? We are looking to recruit a self-motivated and enthusiastic person who has the ability, knowledge and expertise to lead a team of Housing Advice Officers dealing with the information, advice, advocacy, case work and consultancy service to individuals and agencies throughout the Wakefield area. What will be expected from me? This person will be responsible for exercising the authorities’ duties and powers in relation to landlord and tenant issues including The Protection from Eviction Act 1977,The Landlord and Tenant Act 1985 and Renters Reform Act 2025 including taking part in investigations & overseeing investigations to ensure compliance with the appropriate legislation. They will require a thorough knowledge of the above legislation. This is a challenging but rewarding role for someone who has experience of working with vulnerable clients and complex legislation. The successful candidate will be a motivational team leader and have excellent organisation, communication and performance management skills to ensure the statutory requirements of the housing legislation and needs of the customers are met. What I might be doing? · Responsible for the day to day management and leadership of a team of Housing Advice Officers responsible for working proactively to prevent homelessness or address housing need ensuring staff work within local & corporate procedures, polices and guidelines. · Effectively manage the Housing Advice Service to ensure the Council meets its statutory responsibilities in all matters relating to the relationship between landlords and tenants of residential properties, with the exception of issues concerning the condition, size, and licensing of properties (“tenancy relations”). This will include taking part in investigations & overseeing investigations to ensure compliance with but is not limited to the following legislation: Protection From Eviction Act 1977 – section 6. Landlord and Tenant Act 1985 – section 34 pursuant to sections 1, 2, 3, 3A, 25 Rent Act 1977 – section 150 Housing Act 1988 – section 20A (Housing Act 1996, s97) Renters Rights Act 2025 This will involve conducting and monitoring interviews under caution. · To monitor and review housing advice casework providing caseload management to ensure advice provided is accurate, up to date and in line with current legislation, guidance, case law and policies. To also monitor case recording ensuring it is accurate & updated timely and targets are being met Essential requirements: · level 4 of the qualifications and Credit Framework or has significant relevant work-based experience · Substantial knowledge of housing law, welfare rights and landlord and tenant law. Including the Protection from Eviction Act 1977, and Renters Rights Act 2025 · understanding of the housing and support needs of homeless and vulnerable people. · Extensive experience of working with vulnerable clients · Experience of working within a legislative framework and providing advice on complex matters What can I expect?
