Main duties of the job
University Hospital Southampton is excited to be able to offer an amazing opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our therapy services department in Medicine for Older Peoples (MOP) focusing on Proportionate Care (Single Handed Care). This post will work alongside the Proportionate Care Team and Therapy Management team in promoting the single handed care agenda, develop a safe and robust discharge pathway from UHS to home and engage in further transformation work along inpatient pathways.
This is a key role in the therapies patient flow programme and is a great opportunity for someone looking to challenge themselves in an innovative post, whilst also utilising their highly specialised clinical skills in acute working and complex discharge planning. As part of this role you will support discussions with key stakeholders to ensure the SHC pathway is safe and sustainable in MOP.
You will also be part of the senior leadership team in MOP to support staff, complete case reviews and forge links with the MDT and our community providers.
You will work as part of a combined therapy services team delivering patient care across a 7-day service, including weekends and bank holidays, on a roster basis.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
WHAT YOU'LL DO
You will join an award winning and innovative Medicine for Older Peoples Team (MOP) at University Hospital Southampton (UHS). We are looking for experienced, dynamic and agile Occupational Therapist (OT) to join our senior team.
You will be an integral member of the senior therapy team, supporting a key therapies flow project in line with Trust strategic aims. As an OT, you will be expected to support the development of OT careers, from OT students and apprentices through to qualified staff. This will include working closely with therapy staff, with divisional management teams, care group managers and matrons. With your professional skills you will provide the OT clinical expertise to support staff working with highly complex caseloads, and support the review of high intensity packages of care to streamline discharge carer support.
Alongside the SHC project you will also help manage the day-to-day running of the MOP therapy team in conjunction with two clinical specialists, senior therapists and therapy manager. You will also benefit from our close links with the University of Southampton and we can offer education and teaching opportunities.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a highly skilled Occupational Therapist, with experience in managing complex, multimorbid conditions and discharges. You need to be experienced in clinical teaching, people management and be able to demonstrate good leadership skills. We are seeking someone who is motivated and enthusiastic, having demonstrable skills in MDT working, teaching and education, plus involvement in evidence-based practice. An understanding of the proportionate care ethos is essential to be able to lead this project.
