To support patients, their families and carers to maximise their participation in the attainment of their rehabilitation goals by following treatment programmes developed and provided by the Allied Health Professionals (AHP) involved.
To work as a supervised member of the multidisciplinary team, maintaining good communication with the AHPs, and other members of the multi-disciplinary team e.g. doctors, nurses and social workers to try to achieve the Predicted Date of Discharge (PDD).
Main duties of the job
1. Gain valid patient consent and understanding of rehabilitation and education programmes prior to any intervention involving families and carers where necessary and respecting patients’ right to decline treatment.
2. Have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.

Person specification
Knowledge
* Basic level anatomy and physiology.
* Basic therapy equipment.
* Role of the Occupational Therapist and the Physiotherapist.
Skills
* Ability to take responsibility and use initiative as appropriate, using a problem solving technique.
* Ability to develop rapport with patients.
* Ability to communicate appropriately with patients/carers/multi-disciplinary team.
* Demonstrates safe practice in the use of equipment.
* Able to undertake delegated treatment programmes/techniques without supervision.
* Recognise changes in a patient’s condition and be able to report verbally to the relevant registered nurse/Allied Health Professional.
* Complete the clinical documentation required in a timely and effective manner, and following the Trust Policy on documentation.
Education and Qualifications
* AHP NVQ level II /III or relevant clinical equivalent.
* Evidence of having attended clinical training and the learning gained.
Experience
* Experience of therapy roles.
* Experience in the NHS or Health / Care setting.
* Experience of IT systems e.g. email.
* Multi-disciplinary working.
