Job Description
The Specialist Student ISVA’s (SISVA) role is to provide emotional support, information and practical advocacy to survivors of sexual violence aged 16+ currently in education.
They will provide a safe and trauma informed response to their clients, ensuring that they understand their rights and the options open to them.
Though their support is principally focused on the criminal justice system, SISVAs will link clients in with additional support from other agencies where appropriate, including liaising with educational staff to ensure that all identified support needs are met, and students are able to complete their study programmes.
We seek an experienced, dynamic, and reflective woman to engage with students aged 16+ through mutual collaboration and trust.
Your commitment to eradicating sexual violence against women and girls is crucial, along with the drive to challenge systems and structures to protect and promote their rights and needs.
Self-motivated and focused on delivering a high-quality service with an ability to function effectively in high-pressure/sensitive situations.
Specific Duties
1. Manage a caseload of clients who have experienced sexual violence and maintain case files and records using an online case management system.
2. Support and advocate for clients throughout the police and criminal justice systems; ensuring that their welfare and needs are central to the entire process.
3. Assess risk and support needs of clients and make appropriate referrals to health, welfare, benefits, housing, legal and other services as required.
4. Help clients understand and access their full rights to enable the clients to make informed choices about options open to them.
5. Provide support and facilitate access for clients who want to report to the Sexual Assault Referral Centre or Police services.
6. Work within a multi-agency setting to provide individual advocacy for the rights of the client.
7. Facilitate appropriate safeguarding referrals and keep other agencies informed about important changes in a client’s situation within agreed protocols and policies.
8. Help clients to develop their own support network and access appropriate therapeutic interventions.
9. Network and build relationships with Safeguarding Leads in educational settings.
10. Support the ISVA team in delivery and training in educational settings to raise awareness around sexual violence.
General Duties
1. Attend and participate in regular training, staff meetings, supervision and other meetings as necessary within the EKRCC team.
2. Undertake any duties consistent with the post as may be reasonably requested by your line manager, the CEO or the Board of Trustees.
3. No job description can cover every issue which may arise within the post at various times and the post holder is expected to carry out other duties from time to time which are broadly consistent with those in this document.
4. Act in accordance with EKRCC’s policies and procedures.
Essential Criteria Assessed by
1. Experience of working with vulnerable or traumatised individuals, including an awareness of the impact of trauma and a commitment to providing a trauma-informed service.
2. Knowledge of the issues relating to sexual violence including the barriers survivors face in accessing services and how to address these.
3. Experience of working with safeguarding concerns.
4. Experience of carrying out risk assessments, safety and support planning.
5. Experience of working in multi-agency settings including statutory and voluntary services, with an ongoing commitment to partnership working.
6. Experience of maintaining confidential case files, founded in a working understanding of data protection and confidential working practices.
7. Considerable experience in software packages e.g., Microsoft office etc.
8. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
9. Full clean driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential.
Strategic Development
1. Work with the ISVA team to promote and develop the service in accordance with EKRCC’s policies and ethos and liaise with other agencies as appropriate.
2. Maintain up to date knowledge on issues relevant to survivors of sexual violence.
3. Represent EKRCC at relevant multi-agency meetings and forums as necessary and in discussion with the ISVA team and other EKRCC services.
4. Maintain the profile of EKRCC and contribute to the organisation’s marketing and profile.
5. Take responsibility for lead area(s) of work: looking at best practice within the team/organisation, linking with relevant agencies and undertaking additional training to support.
6. Committed to personal and professional development and having the ability to critically assess own performance and engage in reflective practice.
7. Commitment to self-care and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
8. Commitment to the vision, mission and values of EKRCC.
