London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust
We are recruiting for a Band 6 nurse with experience following completion of their critical care course to join the Critical Care Team based at Ealing, London North West Healthcare NHS Trust.
The Critical Care Unit consists of a 12-bedded Intensive Care / HDU Unit. This is a unique opportunity for a qualified candidate or individual with the relevant Critical Care Nursing Course to join the expanding and developing team within Critical Care. We have an additional 24-bedded ICU at Northwick Park and 8-bedded Enhanced Care Unit within LNWUH, and at times you will be required to support one of the other units that is not your base site.
As a Critical Care Unit, we specialize in providing a high standard of medical and post-operative care for patients undergoing a variety of procedures and interventions. Emergency admissions are via our busy Accident and Emergency, one of the busiest units in the country. The majority of our admissions have multiple and diverse care requirements that necessitate advanced organ support such as respiratory, renal, and cardiovascular interventions and treatments.
We work closely with the multiple specialties within the Trust including St Marks, with our Local Critical Care Network and National units.
Main Duties of the Job
The post-holder may be required to manage and supervise shifts in ICU on a shift basis, and this could entail working on either site. They will assist in the training and development of junior staff, nursing students, and other trainees attached to the unit. The post-holder may take direct responsibility for a patient or supervise the work of other nurses.
The Band 6 nurse will support the Senior Nurse Critical Care and the Unit's Team Leaders in delivering the Trust's key performance targets in the area of critical care. Other key relationships include the ICU/ HDU multidisciplinary team (MDT), the lecturer practitioner ICU / HDU, and site practitioners.
The post-holder will have supervisory, clinical, and teaching responsibilities, with the emphasis of the post always being to deliver the highest possible standard of care to patients. They will ensure the implementation of protocols and practice guidelines within their own nursing practice, facilitating the delivery of high-quality evidence-based care while working in close relationship with the MDT. They will assist the PDNs and Team Leaders (TL) by acting as coach and mentor to named nurses, students, or other health care workers (HCW) attached to the Unit.
