Job summary PLEASE NOTE: INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY Band 6 Gastroenterology Triage Nurse for Faster Diagnostic Pathway This is an acting-up/secondment opportunity for 12 months We welcome applications from nurses who are experienced within the speciality of gastroenterology and have completed education at degree level with aspiration to progress with their career in this specialty. This is a new role to support a new Triage pathway for patients who have been referred by GP to the Trust to exclude a cancer diagnosis. The role is to support and undertake assessment of patient referrals with consideration following a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) guided process. An ability to review results of investigations, escalate to a clinician if indicated. These are all skills that will be required and developed, working closely with senior nurses who will support with achievement of competencies to enable independent working following a SOP. Main duties of the job Job Purpose: A specialty nursing position within Gastroenterology. Assess patients referred on 2ww pathway following an agreed algorithm and progress patient along the pathway as clinically indicated. Ensure progress along pathway including monitoring of results of any tests referred to. Following SOP ensure letters written with regards to results outcome. Link in with Consultants as clinically indicated in SOP. Nurse Lead Triage: Nurse Lead Triage pathway has been developed to support the high volume of urgent referrals to the Gastroenterology department. The service is supported by Nurse Advanced Practitioners who also work as nurse endoscopists. There is consultant support to ensure clinical queries that fall out of the pathway can be supported and ensure clinical decision making continues. The role is to support the pathway and ensure that there is timeliness for booking of investigations, results review and confirmation of cancer exclusion or to redirect as clinically directed as per the SOP and pathway.
