Garage Coffee Roasters is a speciality coffee business with stores across East Kent. We source and roast high grade, speciality coffee and serve through our shops and wholesale partners.
We are looking for someone to lead our exciting Roastery operation. This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of a growing part of our business, combining café management with hands-on involvement in roasting, packing, and fulfilling coffee orders. This role is ideal for an experienced manager who is passionate about growth, excels in leading teams, has a high financial acumen and delivers on exceptional customer experiences. The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day operational oversight, strategic planning, and fostering a high-performance culture.
You’ll be responsible for running the café day to day—delivering excellent customer service, maintaining high standards, managing staff, and hitting sales targets—while also overseeing the operational side of the roastery. You’ll work closely with our Head of Coffee to ensure smooth production and timely fulfilment of all wholesale, online, and internal orders and you will also work closely with our Operations Manager to ensure you are delivering on innovative ways to increase sales and respond to the ever-changing customer demand. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about specialty coffee, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and wants to help shape the future of our coffee offering.
The Role
Hours: 40 hours per week
Days of work: 5 days per week (across the 7 days of the week)
Pay: £30,000 per annum
Closing Date: 25/04/2025
Start Date: ASAP
What you’ll do:
1. Manage the day-to-day running of the café, leading by example on customer service and workflow
2. Train and support the team to deliver consistently great service and coffee
3. Work closely with the Head of Coffee to manage green coffee stock
4. Work closely with the Head of Coffee to plan and carry out weekly roasting, packing and order fulfilment
5. Taking part in cupping sessions and coffee quality control checks
6. Take ownership of stock levels, ordering, and organisation in both the café and roastery
7. Monitor and maintain food safety, hygiene and cleaning standards across both areas
8. Manage rotas, holidays and timesheets for your team
9. Take responsibility for weekly reporting and meeting coffee shop and production targets
10. Help develop and grow the roastery’s output and processes as the business evolves
What we’re looking for:
1. Experience managing a coffee shop or similar hospitality business
2. Good understanding of specialty coffee and a desire to keep learning
3. Comfortable working with roasting and packing equipment (training provided)
4. Highly organised, proactive, and able to manage your own workload
5. Strong leadership and communication skills
6. Good attention to detail and a practical, problem-solving mindset
7. Comfortable working in a hands-on, physical environment
