Job Description
Are you an experienced Systems/DevOps Engineer with sound knowledge of Cloud Infrastructure - using AWS, Google Cloud or Microsoft Azure?
About the Role
This role is pivotal in operating and extending our platform at a time when the business is scaling - helping to define, design, implement, deploy, and support the diagnostic services Perspectum offers. The Senior DevOps (Systems) Engineer manages, monitors, and maintains the systems underlying production services, and works closely with the teams who are developing new products and features, continuously enhancing, and evolving the systems by which we deliver value to our customers. This role also pays a key part in ensuring that the infrastructure and systems in which we build our applications are compliant with the relevant regulations and can pass audits.
Day to day your duties will include:
1. Build, monitor, support, manage and improve the infrastructure on which Perspectum’s services run, the lifecycle systems (source, build, CI/CD) by which they are delivered, and the business continuity and disaster recovery plans by which they are supported.
2. Drive initiatives to enhance scalability, robustness, efficiency and value delivery.
3. Support Developers and Architects in platform and technology choices.
4. Drive and support adherence to Perspectum’s Security Development Lifecycle and all applicable standards (e.g., ISO27001, CIS benchmarks, etc).
5. Ensure production and development environments and systems are kept secure, including patch management, auditing, access control, etc.
6. Manage operational and security incidents as part of a 24/7 on-call team.
About You
We are looking for individuals who have a strong technical background and are looking to move into a leadership position. To be considered, you will have several years of relevant experience in creating and maintaining cloud infrastructure as part of a wider engineering team. You will be able to demonstrate good technical judgement and effective, robust problem solving in implementing and operating production systems. Ideally, you also have experience of working in a regulated industry where compliance to common standards and taking part in audits is expected.
Your experience, skills and abilities will include:
1. AWS (or equivalent cloud provider) in a Production setting.
2. Effective infrastructure monitoring.
3. Knowledge of Linux as a server OS.
4. Practical production experience of AWS EC2, Lambda, RDS, S3, ALBv2, Route 53, ECS, API Gateways, Jenkins, BitBucket Pipelines or equivalent, Docker.
5. Efficient problem solving with Python (or equivalent).
6. Contemporary CI/CD practices, including multi-step database migrations, feature flagging and testing in production.
7. Cloud infrastructure automation frameworks.
We are looking for individuals who have excellent communication skills, are confident in explaining to both technical and non-technical audiences, are highly organised and enjoy leading and managing team members.
This is a full time, permanent opportunity based in Oxford with hybrid working opportunities.
